HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. It uses similar ultrasound waves that hospital ultrasound scanners use (such as those used during pregnancy). However, instead of spreading them over a wide area to capture an image of the tissues underneath, it instead focuses them into one small area to create a zone of heat and inflammation.
When the Intense, focused ultrasound reaches the tissue, it creates points of inflammation. Collagen fibres start to shrink whilst body fat begins to be metabolized and removed. The process of new skin rebuilding follows.
As we advance in the years, the skin starts to develop visible signs of aging. Wrinkles appear more prominent and the skin starts to become lax and flabby.
Focused ultrasound targets the skin. Collagen fibres begin to shrink. Skin begins its rejuvenation.
Skin is smooth, wrinkles disappeared. Face looks younger and firmer.
Does it involve needles?
No. Just like a hospital ultrasound machine, HIFU only uses ultrasounds to penetrate the skin. Unlike micro-needling, there are no needles involved.
Does it hurt?
You should expect some level of discomfort but it should not hurt. If you start to feel pain, we stop the procedure and adjust the session parameters before carrying on.
How long does the procedure take?
HIFU is a time consuming procedure. The total amount of time required depends on the size of the area being worked on. Smaller areas such as the face can take about an hour but larger areas such as the abdomen can take up to 2 hours.
What is 3D HIFU?
HIFU 3D means that we can make adjustments to how the ultrasounds are focused in all three dimensions (length, width, and depth).
Is there any down time?
No. There is no down time with HIFU (the time it takes for the treatment area to recover others cannot tell a procedure was done).
Cost?
The price of the procedure will depend on how large the treatment area is and what we are trying to accomplish (skin tightening vs fat elimination). This will all be explained to you during the consultation.
When can I expect results?
Immediately! Whilst it takes up to 3 months to see the full effect of HIFU, you will be able to see a difference straight away. This is because HIFU works by causing controlled damage and inflammation to the areas treated. This initially causes the collagen to shrink causing skin tightening, but then over the next three months there is new collagen formation which will further tighten the skin.
